Can I use Safari on my Macintosh? [top]

The system requires the latest Flash plug-in, available here. No other plug-ins or software are required.

Internet Connection and Bandwidth

Can I use a wireless connection with ALEX? [top]
While a strong wireless connection may work in some cases, it is not recommended. An Ethernet cable connection is preferred.

Can I use a dial-up connection? [top]
Unfortunately, a dial up connection will not work with ALEX.

Can I use a DSL or Cable Modem connection? [top]
Yes. A direct, Ethernet connection (not wireless) using DSL or Cable Modem is recommended for successful course streaming.

Can I use my corporate LAN? [top]
Yes. Please Note that some highly congested corporate LANs may cause stuttering or hesitations in course playback.

I opened a course window, but it remains white. What should I do? [top]
Please be sure you have the latest version of a supported browser, and the latest version of the Flash plug-in available here.

My video stops and stutters. How do I fix that? [top]
Please make sure you have a broadband internet connection (DSL, Cable Modem, or corporate LAN) and are using an Ethernet cable (wireless connection is NOT recommended).

Navigating ALEX

My password isn't working/I forgot my password. What should I do? [top]
If you have forgotten your ALEX password, click the ‘Forgot Password?’ link on the ALEX login page. Fill in the required fields and your password will be sent to your email address. You can also email ALEXSupport@avid.com and request a password change.

My course disappeared from the Content list. How do I get it back? [top]
As you complete your courses, they are automatically moved from the "My Content - in Progress" section to the "My Content - Completed" section. This section will display your transcript with any completed ALEX content. Simply click on the completed course you would like to launch. From here, you will be taken to the "Course Summary" page where you will see the skills you have acquired and other information about the course. To re-launch the course, click the "Online Offering" link on the left side to view the course structure and the links to launch the course/individual lessons. Note: Not all courses have individual lesson links. For these courses, you can launch the main course page and use the "previous" and "next" buttons to navigate to different lessons.

Can I download course lessons to my computer? [top]
Yes. Individual course lessons may be downloaded locally to your computer. Within a course/lesson window, click the ‘Download’ button and follow the instructions provided at the top of the Downloads page.

Do I have to be connected to the internet to download lessons? [top]
You must be connected to the internet during the download. Once the lesson download has completed, you may work with the lessons offline. However, you must be connected to take any follow-up quizzes that might be available for your specific course.

After viewing downloaded lessons, the system does not show a completed status. What should I do? [top]
Since the lesson was viewed offline, the system cannot determine whether or not you have completed it. To change your status for the lesson, simply launch the lesson within the system (or load the lesson within the course window) and then exit. This will change your lesson status to ‘Completed.’
